Just like humans, animals may experience fear and anxiety when taking a trip to the doctor’s office. Observing this stress in your pup or feline can be difficult for you as a pet owner, resulting in a hesitance on your part to take your pet to a professional when they need to be seen. That’s why at East Valley Animal Hospital (serving Gilbert, Chandler, and Mesa AZ), we’ve moved our pet care up a notch to become Fear Free Certified Professionals!

What Is Fear Free?

Fear Free is a certification program that strives to take the pet out of petrified by “…Providing online and in-person education to veterinary professionals, the pet professional community, and pet owners.” Dr. Becker, creator of the Fear Free program, has a wide array of knowledge and experience in the veterinary industry. In addition to owning a veterinary practice, he is a professor at Washington State University and was the resident veterinary contributor on “Good Morning America” for 17 years. He’s also a member of the Dr. Oz Medical Advisory Panel.

The staff at East Valley Animal Hospital has undergone this in-depth training to become certified Fear Free practitioners. As a result, we’re trained to:

  • Reduce or remove anxiety triggers that can cause pets to become fearful at home, in transport, and at the veterinary hospital
  • Help owners deliver calm pets to our hospital
  • Enhance the quality of medicine in our practice
  • Increase compliance
  • Improve safety for the veterinary team

All of this leads to a more positive and stress-free experience for our fluffy patients and their owners. But don’t just take our word for it. Here is what one of our delighted clients had to say about our care:

“I have followed Dr. Mafara to three different locations over the past thirteen years. During this time he and his team have helped me through the loss of several of my fur children. The care and concern that they have shown for me and my pets cannot be matched. Dr. Mafara has a talent for diagnosing the problems I have brought to him. He takes the time to explain what is going on and the treatment prognosis. He does not hesitate to refer you to other veterinarians if he feels it would be beneficial or you would like a second opinion. Dr. Mafara and team are part of my family.”
